PLAYERS TIME COMMITTMENT

PLAYERS TIME COMMITTMENT

One of the educational opportunities for sports of all levels is the opportunity to teach punctuality and time management.  It doesn't take talent to be on time and to attend games and practices.  With this said, things happen and we only ask these things:
  1. Communicate ahead of time if you will not be able to make a game.  Not the day of the game.  Coaches spend a lot of time preparing for the games and they need to know as soon as you know when you can't attend.
  2. Communicate if you will miss a practice (or; running late, leaving early).  Again, the coaches spend time preparing for practice and it is helpful to know if someone will not be there.
  3. You can't miss a lot.  The rules say 2 or more games/practices.  If you do, the coach (after consulting with the GM) can suspend or bench the player.  If you communicate well, this probably won't happen.
Practice times
Each team will be allotted one-weekday practice and one-weekend practice during the Fall and Spring season.  The weekend practice times will continue throughout the season, but the weekday practice will discontinue once games begin.  Depending on the league, the practice time will be at least one hour (very young leagues) to 90 minutes for the older leagues per practice.

Games
The Fall schedule is 6 weeks of 2 games a week for all leagues but Peewee and they play 10 games.  The Spring schedule is 10 games for Teeball and Peewee, 14 games for all other leagues with the exception of 12 games for Senior BB and SB.   Teams will be scheduled no more than 2 games during the week and no more than 3 games if a game is canceled due to bad weather.

If a team does not have 9 players, that puts them at a major disadvantage and they can play with a minimum of 7 or it is a forfeit.  If you miss games, it can cause two teams to not have games due to a Forfeit.  It is important that you attend the games.

Schedule
The Fall season will begin the first week of Labor Day weekend with no games on that Labor Day Monday and go 6 weeks with a tournament for the older leagues.
The spring season will begin the Monday of Derby Week with no games on Oaks and no games on Memorial Day for the Junior Leagues and younger.  Intermediate and Senior Leagues will start two weeks later and go 2 weeks longer (after the 4th weekend).  It is the goal to finish the younger leagues tournament by the 4th of July.

It is advisable, if possible, to not take vacation until after the 4th for the younger leagues or two weeks after the 4th for the Older Leagues in the Spring Season.
We do play games during Fall Break.
