Returning Players on Waiting List | Coaches
Okay, first of all, the goal is to get every single player off of the waiting list and returning players. However, there are some issues. Let me give you an example for an imaginary league.
- The maximum number of players need to be determined. This is determined by taking the number of teams in the league last year and subtracting one and then multiplying by 12 players. So, in this imaginary league, we had 6 teams in the league last year so we begin with 5 teams with 12 players each. So, the initial maximum number is 60 for this league.
- Early in registration, I watch each league to see how close each league is getting to the waiting list. If the league is getting full pretty quickly and we have enough Head Coaches, I will then add an additional team. So, now this league has 6 teams of 12 each so 72 eligible players.
- I keep the roster max at 12 for all leagues until we get really close to the end of registration as this gives me a few players I can add if needed as there are always some issues.
Coaches, here is what I try to not happen...
This imaginary league gets to 72 players that have registered and, let's say, 2 players are on the waiting list. With a league of 6 teams, I can add up to 6 more players to that 72 to make 78. However, the reason I try to get the coaches to encourage their players to sign up early, let's say that you have more than 6 players (say 7 players) that has not registered and they go on the waiting list. This is a problem. Unless we give the team with the 7 players on the waiting list 14 players one player won't be able to be added as the 72 players that have already registered and paid so I can't remove any of those players to make room. Also, this wouldn't be enough to create a new team even if we had another Head Coach.
So, the bottom line is that just because the player is returning doesn't mean that he or she automatically will be pulled off the waiting list.
