How Does the Draft Work?

Once the number of teams is determined based on the number of players that have registered and we are within a few days of the coach's meeting, we will begin with the draft.  Players are assigned to teams based on the following:

  1. Players will be assigned to the teams that their parents/grandparents are volunteering as head coaches and official assistant coaches. Currently, only one "official" assistant coach is permitted where the child/children are assigned automatically to that team. There are other rules associated with the official assistant coach.
  2. Returning players from the previous spring season that are registered for the current spring season in the same league (age group) are added to the same team they played for last spring unless they request otherwise on the registration form.  If no request is made, the returning player will automatically return to the same spring team in the same league (age group)
  3. If the player played in the same league during the previous fall, they will be automatically assigned to the same team for the following spring season with the following exceptions:
    1. Priority is given if the player is returning from the previous spring AND fall in the same league to the Spring team unless requested otherwise.
    2. They request to go back to the draft.
    3. The combination of the two teams creates a roster larger than 13 then the assignment will be based on registration dates.
  4. If a player played in the same league in the previous spring AND the previous fall but associated with two different teams, the priority will be the team they participated on for the Spring. Note: If you request to be put in the draft, you will be assigned as a free agent and not permitted to request a coach for the spring.
  5. A player (family) may choose which team they want to play for if they play for two different coaches the previous spring and fall in the SAME League.
    1. Players will automatically be assigned to teams they played for in the fall as long as:
    2. The head coach coaches in the fall and also the current spring
    3. It is in the same league.
    4. The player/family did not request to be put back in the draft.
  6. All other players will be added to the pool of "free agents" and will be assigned based on league criteria.
  7. Players, families, and coaches can not request coaches, teams, or teammates in the spring season with the exception of teeball.
  8. Players who request to be put back in the pool will not be permitted to choose the team or coach.
